Art Adventures/summer Living

Wow, the summer flew by! I went to a few art festivals, talked with other art teachers, worked on some new lesson ideas, and had a little project of my own! This is my new mug I made at a paint your own pottery place. It's going to be on my desk for students to enjoy. It has Claudia my cat as an artist at the "Meow Museum". These are all famous artists with famous pieces of art, with a feline twist. Enjoy!

Thank you Angie! It took 2 long sittings in the pottery shop but it's fun to have it to use. The students laugh and enjoy it.

Welcome to Miss Oetken's Art Room and talented ARTISTS!

You know the great artist Pablo Picasso once said these very profound words: "Every child is an artist. The problem is to remain an artist once we grow up." Well let me just say, that myself along with my students follow this everyday! I have managed to stay a kid myself and show that ART is a really an exciting journey that connects history and cultures from long ago to now! We start with a history time-line that takes us on an adventure from when the cavemen first roamed (and were the first to create the some of the most beneficial art!) the earth, to the discovery of the art in designing and making the Egyptians' sarcophagus', to Monet's dabs of paint forming the beautiful waterlillies to Picasso's misunderstood mixed up faces in his portraits, to Modern Art such as the glass, alien-like forms like that of Dale Chihuly. Phew! And that's just a glimpse of what we actually focus on in our art! What is art? Wanna find out? Then take a look at what we're studying on my blog!
